Emotional Intelligence
Self-Science teaches emotional intelligence.
This means that children are taught to be knowledgeable, intelligent, about their personal emotions in order to better control them and put them to positive use. Emotions are a very powerful tool for each person, and can be a very powerful hindrance, too. Learning to recognize your emotions and learning how to make your emotions work for you as a positive tool can be a skill that determines your success in life, with jobs, with relationships, with yourself.
Emotional intelligence goes beyond standardized testing set forth by many school districts in which children are expected to learn a very specific academic curriculum in order to move ahead in school. Emotional intelligence gives children an avenue in which they are able, and willing, to make positive choices about how they think and feel about the learning process. It gives children options, and with options children are more willing to learn and grow because they have made their own choice to do so.
